| KISS High/Output Wind Generators | ![]() |
Blade design... Highly cambered with twist, taper and elliptical tips the blade shape provides maximum torque at relatively low rpm's resulting in minimal blade noise from the wind generator. Each blade is made of five layers of bi-axial glass roving pressure molded in polyester to provide strength with minimal flex and very light weight. All three blades are bolted to an aluminium disk that screws onto the tapered threaded motorshaft. | ![]() |
Alternator design... The power plant is a brushless alternator specifically designed to match the low speed characteristics of the rotor blades. The alternator produces 12 volts at only 200 rpm. The alternator incorporates epoxy coated neodymium magnets, a shaft seal and plastic sealed #6203 metric ball bearings, the most common bearing in the world. Note what the wind generator does not incorporate: commutators, brushes or slip rings. All of these features ensure maintenance of the wind generator will be infrequent, simple and inexpensive. |
|
Housing design... The motor fits directly into the two piece fiberglass housing which is then bolted together, through the stator, with four stainless steel machine screws and sealed with silicone. The bearings are seated in rubber sleeves to prevent bearing rumble while a oil seal prevents water entering the motor along the rotor shaft. |

Mounting system...
Incorporated into the housing is a graphite impregnated bearing surface which mates to a machined PVC pole cap. This pole cap can be mounted on to any 1 1/2" schedule 40 aluminium pipe or 2 inch stainless steel tube as well as 48 and 50 mm steel tubes. A threaded PVC collar lock screws into the housing to prevent the unit from rising off of the mounting pole. A torsion spring eliminates slip rings and allows the unit to rotate freely.
Weight...
The unit weighs only 23 lbs. (10kg.) Of note is that the blades and aluminium mounting disk weigh only four lbs., resulting in minimal precessional forces on the 3/4" motor shaft.
Electrical system... The unit has been designed to provide brute force energy. Alternating current is converted to direct current by a 30 amp automotive diode pack and fed directly to the ship's battery bank. At higher wind speeds the thermal regulators engage and reduce amp output. The KISS wind generator can be shut-down in up to gale force winds by the use of the on-off switch. The switch stops the blades from spinning and eliminates the need to approach the wind generator while it is operating. |

Dimensions...
The rotor has a radius of 29 inches
(74 cm). The housing is 24 inches (61 cm) in length. The control box, to be
located in the boat, is 4 inches by 6 inches.
